In my previous incarnation I lived in Russia and was a physiologist. Since 1991, I live in US.
I started to learn programming in Borough of Manhattan Community College in 1996. There were many private computer schools in Brooklyn and New York. I studied Visual Basic in one of them and in seven months I passed Microsoft Certified exam in Visual Basic 4.0. Since I had 10 years of teaching experience in a Russian University, I started to teach Visual Basic in one of the private computer schools in Brooklyn.

In CUNY, I choose computer science. Required courses were C++ and assembly languages. Also I learned Java on my own because BMCC library had Java books. In summer 2000, I had internship with Greg Elin, a web developer from NUY. I learned ColdFusion and participated in developing NYU directories web site and NYSIA directories web site. One day I came to work and my boss asked me to fix a script in PHP. I even did not know what PHP was. He installed it for me and at the end of the day I fixed the script. I learned a lot for this summer 2000: ColdFusion, PHP, MySQL, Oracle. It was great time.
Some times, I miss New York...
